The Education Program at El Paso Community College developed this health curriculum with support from the Pfizer Health Literacy Grants Program. The curriculum focuses on issues relevant to the local community, and uses locally available health education materials. The lesson plans are participatory and include activities for reading, writing, critical thinking, and taking action. It can be used as is or as a model for developing your own curriculum based on your community's needs and resources. Some of the activities involve research on disease rates for different ethnic groups. The handouts and some of the vocabulary are in Spanish and English. Topics include diabetes, breast health, menopause, lead poisoning, and nutrition.
