This 63-page instructor's manual is a curriculum for training workers about toxic chemicals and tobacco in the workplace. It can be used on its own or with the booklet: Workers' Guide to Toxics on the Job. (See listing in Fact Books, Readers and Stories section.) It has a participatory format and can be adapted to a variety of workplaces. The curriculum contains four units that each take 30-50 minutes. Each unit includes objectives, a planning guide, discussion points, and step-by-step instructions for the activities and exercises. The units are: Threats to Your Health on the Job; Investigating Chemical Hazards at Work; How to Make the Job Safer; and An Action Plan. Reproducible handouts are included, with trade-specific versions for the following trades: welding, construction, collision repair, and machining. The material teaches workers the facts about toxic chemicals, tobacco smoke, and other workplace hazards; but, the real focus is on training workers to investigate their workplace and become advocates for improving the safety of their working environment.
