Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center
http://www2.wgbh.org/MBCWEIS/LTC/QSCC/
An ESOL class at the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center created this site, with help from their teacher. From the home page, click on Adult ESL Program to find HELP, the Health Education Literacy Project, student writings, or students' home pages. Click on "HELP" to view the impressive results of an intensive health project that the students undertook. It includes stories about seat belt use, lead poisoning, and asthma, each with easy-to-read versions, vocabulary translated into Chinese, and a full Chinese translation. There is also a write-up of practical information about health care and health care access for new immigrants. This includes students' stories about seeing the doctor, information from the Asian Information and Referral Hotline, and a sample application for free health care, filled out in Chinese.
